One nice thing about homeschooling is that when our son takes a break, he is able to go outside and take a walk. These past 2 weeks he has been able to take a walk with the dog we are presently taking care of. We've been blessed with beautiful weather...so it's been especially nice. Even if we aren't taking care of a dog, he and I try to get out for a walk several times a week, if not every day. It's a nice break and a good mom and son moment.....the 'teacher' - 'student' relationship is put on hold for the time being. Breaks....something that we realized our son needed to do when he was doing his homework in the evenings...short breaks between subjects...the stress and the frustration levels became less and less...this made getting his homework done easier and we had a happier son.
Don't we all need to take a break every now and then? Isn't that why we take family vacations? Get away from the "daily grind"...see new places, people, experience new things....relax. We may not be able to go away on a vacation whenever we want...but we are able to take a break when we need to...we don't have to go far, in fact, we can take that break right where we are at the moment. We can take that needed break from our daily grind and have a visit with our Lord. It doesn't even have to be a long break....just a "Hi Lord...thanks for being with me today...continue to bless me as I go about my day". Or if the stress level is reaching it's peak...our prayer can be an earnest request for His promised strength to get us through the moment and the day or weeks ahead. No matter why we need a break...or when we need a break...we can always get away and have a refreshing visit with the One who will always be happy to hear from us and Who is always there for us...anytime we need to take a break.
