What Curriculum? (post #6)

With the ending of this school year and knowing we plan to homeschool our son next year...people are asking me: "So have you decided on which curriculum you are going to use?"  "Have you purchased your curriculum yet?"

Curriculum?? What curriculum??  Oh, I know what a curriculum is....and I have looked at them on -line and in catalogs...but to be honest, I haven't chosen one, and I'm not sure if I will for our first year of homeschooling. I have thoughts on what I want to start and hopefully accomplish this first year at home....some basics that are not concrete yet, those stepping stones of knowledge that are assumed learned, but need to be emphasized and learned again before going on....Thankfully in WI a person homeschooling does not have to follow a curriculum, but needs to show progression in learning. So with the help of teacher friends, this summer we will put together a plan...specifically made for our son...at his level and with his interests in mind.

If I may quote from one of my favorite blogs -http://musingsfromamug.blogspot.com/2011/05/wired-to-follow.html: The more my life revolves around Jesus the less things feel out of control or hopeless or unbearable and the more I feel confident in my purpose.  Yes, I have to research and plan for homeschooling my son, but knowing the Lord has placed talented and caring people in my life and supplied a multitude of resources at my disposal, eases any worries I may have and will have in venturing into the world of homeschooling.  My purpose is not only to educate my son in academics but more importantly to focus his life and mine on following Jesus and bringing Him glory in all we do.
